Budget 2021, MooMoo’s premiership in the spotlight
The Dewan Rakyat reconvenes today.
We’re expecting the coming session to be explosive, not least ’cos PM Muhyiddin Yassin’ll be looking to get Budget 2021 passed as his PM-ship hangs by the slimmest of threads. Umno, meanwhile, waits, ever-ready to pounce.
Also in the news, a high number of Covid-19 recoveries suggests the tide may be turning for us, Dr Mahathir Mohamad makes an ass of himself again, and Malaysia’s cinemas get ready to shut their doors for the foreseeable future.
Covid death-free day!
Welcome back! We hope you had a good public break.
Sadly in that time, we’ve crossed the 10,000 mark as far as active Covid-19 cases are concerned. HOWEVER, yesterday saw a marked decrease in new cases and the country recorded its first death-free day in weeks!
Meanwhile, talk on the upcoming tabling of Budget 2021 is ramping up; a certain BN party is still holding the Perikatan Nasional government to ransom; and, a certain former PM twice-over has stirred shit up at a global level. TGIF!
Old habits die hard
That oft-used and even more oft-condemned Sedition Act makes an appearance as police announce investigations against a DAP rep and several others for alleged insults against the monarchy.
In other news, some of our brilliant leaders are still not heeding the King’s advice to stop fighting each other; and our daily Covid numbers take a slight dip, as do the infectivity rate.
Also, we’d like to remind you, our dear subscribers, that tomorrow is a public holiday so you won’t be getting your favourite newsletter in your inboxes. We’d also like to wish our Muslim readers a blessed celebration of the Prophet’s birthday, though, as always during these times, stay safe!
Political ceasefire need not mean cease politicking
Despite the King’s advice on Sunday, a bunch of meetings on Monday saw our politicians get back to what they do best – politicking. Numero uno on everyone’s agenda was the fate of our prime minister after his royal emergency fail.
Meanwhile, brace yourselves for another record-breaking Covid-19 tally, several conditional movement control orders (CMCO) get extended, and could a confidence-and-supply pact really work for PM Moo?
Sorry, Moo, better luck next time.
Things are not going working out according to Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s masterplan (whatever that may be) as the King’s responded with a big, fat “no” to request for a state of emergency to be declared. Unfortunately, the political crisis that led to Moo and co. opting for the emergency card may be far from over, what with rumours of a resignation now swirling!
In other news, Malaysia’s Covid-19 numbers hit record highs, and the Selangor MB’s in hot water for breaching quarantine.
Children pun tak lepas
In more signs that bloody Covid-19 does not discriminate, over 1,000 of our school-going kids have been infected by the disease in the past month alone. Oh and we’ve once more gone past 800 daily cases.
In other news, US bank Goldman Sachs’ ordered to pay a shit-tonne of money in several countries over the 1MDB scandal; and, our brilliant leaders are set for a special face-to-face Cabinet meeting today, not having learned their lesson after one of their own came down with Covid.
Seriously ‘Abah’, WTF?
After months of back and forth, investigations into the home quarantine breach by Turkey Commodities Minister Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali have come to naught due to a ‘technicality’, thanks to some idiot health officer.
In other news, it’s confusion city as the gomen’s clarification on its CMCO work-from-home order raises far more questions than it answers; and, dreams of Malaysian domination by one politician appears to have ended, for now.
Heigh ho, heigh ho, to work from home we go!
The gomen’s deemed it necessary to order over a million workers to begin working from home tomorrow. While good intentioned, no doubt, the sudden sweeping command has given businesses little time to plan.
In other news, we’re still floundering in the over-800-Covid-cases-a-day zone; Umno and PAS ‘ave left little stepbrother Bersatu out of the sandbox; and, the Selangor Sultan’s told politicians to stop being idiots, but can they help it, though?
What’s up with our water?
Taps run dry once again in the Klang Valley and residents are, rightly, pissed as hell. But could sabotage be behind the latest water cut?
Elsewhere, Selangor complains its efforts against Covid-19 are being hampered by the federal government, Malaysia registered over 800 new coronavirus cases for the third straight day, and two anticipated political meetings get called off.
Flattening that bloody curve, it’s now or never
Malaysia’s Covid-19 records continue to be shattered and our Health Ministry’s so concerned by the surge, it’s calling on the National Security Council (NSC) to tighten existing restrictions on activities.
Elsewhere in today’s newsletter, political leaders continue to plot and scheme as the country burns by coronavirus, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka gets cheekier with their pantuns, and a Sarawakian icon is honoured by Google.
