Mahathir fiddles amidst Malaysians’ angst
PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad seems to be a little deluded these days, making statements that don’t seem all that, well, logical. Starting off with saying poor people are lazy, the old man has also gone on a bender against those not 100% happy with his gomen.
In other news, it’s back to school (well, sorta) for ministers as they present report cards on their performance; and, the government is looking to protect Bangladeshi workers, but not quite doing enough to help Malaysians.
How Low can you go?
Boy oh boy, was it a day of BS in Malaysia yesterday. First we had Jho Low happily bluffing (allegedly, allegedly!) his way through an interview with Singaporean stenography company, The Straits Times.
But it wasn’t just that – there’s a faint whiff of something pungent in what the Health Ministry has been saying about influenza cases in the country. But what really takes the dung cake, is how ex-PM Najib Razak got caught with his pants down, BS-ing in the worst possible place to do so – the courtroom. Fun times!
Buh-bye Maszlee
Howdy folks! Did you miss us? We’ve had a wonderful break over the past few weeks, but we’re back, recharged and chompin’ at the bit to start writing for you again. Thank you so much for your response to our survey (we’ll share the results soon) and for contributing to our tip jar (we’ll use that to go for a nice meal).
We got a couple of emails saying the link to the survey form didn’t work, but don’t know how many of you it affected. Here’s the link again in case you couldn’t answer before (your answers are important coz they’ll determine our future direction!). Some of you also couldn’t access the link to the tip jar, so here are the direct debit and PayPal links again.
How badly are we pissing off the Saudis?
The Saudis are apparently pissed that Malaysia is courting a trio of its enemies by hosting the leaders of Qatar, Turkey and Iran at the KL Summit. How does this affect the average Malaysian hoping to perform his or her haj?
In other news, Jibby Razak plays dumb at his SRC trial; the Prisons Department of course denies that convicted Altantuya murderer Azilah Hadri was allowed out to meet a VVIP; and, a supposedly obscene ad was ordered taken down by KL City Hall.
A conspiracy theorist’s dream come true
As expected, there has been a deluge of stories on Najib Razak’s involvement (allegedly, allegedly) in Altantuya Shaariibuu’s 2006 murder following an accusation by convicted killer Azilah Hadri that Jibby had ordered the dirty deed done. Perhaps the most interesting was an allegation that Azilah had met with a VVIP, whose name we know not, outside of Sungai Buloh prison.
In other news, a lawyer who perhaps has no clients to assist has filed another claim that vernacular schools are unconstitutional while claiming not to be racist; and, Malaysia has filed a submission staking claims to parts of the South China Sea, much to a spoilt brat’s China’s annoyance.
Is there a conspiracy to frame Najib for murder?
It’s lies, Najib Razak says! All lies! But is there something in convicted murderer Azilah Hadri’s allegation that the order to kill Mongolian model Altantuya Shaariibuu came from Jib?
Elsewhere in today’s newsletter, Anwar Ibrahim’s accuser says he’s willing to submit to a lie detector test, NST, Berita Harian and Harian Metro are letting go of some 500-plus people, and we’ll be kicking off 2020 with another by-election.
Here’s what we haven’t considered about the Sabah polio case
To prevent a state- and nation-wide crisis, the Health Ministry is moving to make sure all kids in Sabah below the age of five receive extra polio immunisation. But could this problem have been avoided before it got to this stage?
In other news, Lim Guan Eng says Pakatan Harapan is purposely being targeted by the Opposition for taking a moderate stance, and that old problem with Jawi calligraphy rears its head again.
A warning Pakatan should heed
If Pakatan Harapan knows what’s good for them, they’ll pay attention to a survey which shows that they have a very slim lead over Muafakat Nasional, which is increasingly favoured by many population segments in the country.
In other news, the Dewan Rakyat Speaker says MPs have nothing to fear but fear itself in declaring their assets (unless they’re dodgy?), while Anwar Ibrahim is calling for PKR members to stop talking about his little tiff with Azmin Ali.
Oh, Samy!
S. Samy Vellu has been quiet for some time now, but over the past few days has come back into the limelight for all the wrong reasons. The former MIC president is the subject of two separate suits, one filed by his son, S. Vell Paari, the other by a woman claiming to be his “quasi-spousal” partner.
Meanwhile, Najib Razak disagreed with everything AG Tommy Thomas threw at him during his SRC International trial (of course) and we’ve been told a polio case in Sabah was “imported” from the Philippines.
The rise and fall of Rafizi Ramli
Rafizi Ramli, strategist extraordinaire for PKR and engineer of the Kajang Move, is sulking away from politics, apparently cos he wasn’t feeling the love from fellow Pakatan members. But we doubt this will be the last we see of him.
In other news, Dr Mahathir Mohamad is earning in one month more than most Malaysians make in a year; Loving husband Najib Razak bought wifey Rosmah Mansor a RM500K watch as a make up gift; and, the PKR rift shows no signs of abating.
